Eastern Karbi Anglong College a leading higher educational Institution of the eastern part of Karbi Anglong district was established in 1997 at Sarihajan at the unstinting initiative and generous contribution of the local public. The noble attempt to establish this college was made in 1997 itself with the convening of a public meeting on 6th July 1997 at Sarihajan PWD Rest House under the Presidenship of Mr. Humsing Bey, the then E.M. i/c Edn. KAAC, Diphu. It was in this meeting that a resolution was passed to start the Eastern Karbi Anglong College from the session 1997-98.
However, the regular classes started from the month of September 1997 with Mr. B.B Goswami (Retd. Lecturer, Deptt. Of Economics, Kaliabar College) as the founder Principal. He was assisted by the founder Lecturers Mr. A.C. Das, Mr. S.L. Subba, Mr. E. Ekka, Mr. P.K. Saikia, Ms. K. Singh and Ms. R. Singh. The college had a humble beginning with only 41 students.
As the college did not have its own building, it was initially housed at the old dispensary building of Karbi Anglong Sewa Kendra and the newly erected temporary house by the local public at Sarihajan Tiniali. The KAAC, Diphu has generously allotted 100 Bighas of land to this budding institution. In 2001 the college was shifted to its own beautiful permanent building at Talbalijan. It has been receiving the services of qualified, experienced and dedicated lecturers.
It was formally inaugurated on 29th September 2003 by Dr. Jayanta Rongpi, the then M.P. and Mr. Jagatsing Ingti, M.L.A.
The College has acquired establishment and academic permissions from the Education Department of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council, Diphu from the date of its inception in 1997. It has also obtained permission for classes up to Degree level from the academic authority of Assam University, Silchar in 1998. An affiliated institution under the Assam University, Silchar, the college was granted "Govt. Concurrence" by the Govt. of Assam on 18thOctober, 2001. More satisfyingly, the college has been accorded Degree Examination Centre in 2005 and since then it has been successfully conducting the TDC Examinations. The process of bringing this institution under the deficit grants-in-aid-system of the Govt. of Assam was started in 2002 andthe Assam Venture Institutions Provincialization (of Services) Act, 2011, amended 2012 has been enforced in the college w.e.f. 1st January, 2013. Further, an affiliated (permanent) college under Assam University, Silchar, Eastern Karbi Anglong College has been granted U.G.C.'s 2(f) & 12(b) status vide order No.F No.8-498/2012(CPP-I/C) dated 13th October, 2015.
Since its establishment the college has recorded brilliant academic performance. Gradually the college succeedsin carving out a name and fame in various fields including games & sports and literary activities.
It is quite heartening to note that the College has been granted the Science Stream by the Govt. of Assam vide order No. DHE/CE/Misc/ 113/ 2020/IS dated Kahilipara, the 3rd August 2020. The first batch of HS First-year students admitted in the Science Stream of the college for the academic session: 2020-2021 got promoted into HS 2nd year. From this academic session, i.e., 2021-2022 the college plans to offer B.Sc. 1st Sem (both Honours & Pass Course). The college is well equipped with brilliant and professionally adept teaching 4 faculties and an up-to-date Science Lab to cater to the teaching-learning needs of the students to be admitted into the Science Stream.
